McKenzie Lake

A 42-acre lake on the eastern edge of Fish Creek

McKenzie Lake is one of the older lake communities in Calgary, established in the late 1980s. The lake-access area was developed by Carma Developers, now Brookfield Residential, which took over the property in 1989. The community sits between Fish Creek Provincial Park and Deerfoot Trail in the southeast.

The 42-acre man-made lake is run by the McKenzie Lake Residents Association. Not every home in McKenzie Lake has lake rights: only households within the association's designated boundary, with its encumbrance registered on title, are eligible, and for those homes the annual fee is mandatory whether or not the facilities are used. Members have a sandy beach with marked swimming areas, free boat rentals, a lake stocked with trout, courts, playgrounds and, in winter, groomed rinks and a skating loop. Pets are not allowed at the lake.

The housing is predominantly detached, much of it from the 1990s, with a small number of townhouses. Fish Creek Park is close by on the west, and Deerfoot and Stoney Trail provide fast road connections.
