Auburn Bay

A 43-acre lake beside Seton and the South Health Campus

Auburn Bay was established in the mid-2000s by Brookfield Residential in the far southeast of the city. Its lake covers 43 acres and is about 30 feet deep, which the residents' association describes as one of the largest and deepest in Calgary. A 13-acre park surrounds the beach area.

Membership in the Auburn Bay Residents Association is automatic and mandatory with the purchase of a home in the community, secured by an encumbrance on title. That generally includes condominium homes, though buyers should confirm the details for a specific property. Members have floating docks, boat rentals, a lake stocked with trout, beach volleyball, tennis and pickleball, and a toboggan hill, rinks and a skating loop in winter. Auburn House holds a banquet room and gymnasium.

Housing is newer and varied, from low-rise condominiums and townhouses to detached homes. Immediately to the south, Seton has the South Health Campus and the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton, a City-owned recreation centre with a regional library branch.

Getting around: Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail border the community to the west and north. The City's long-term Green Line plan includes a future Auburn Bay/Mahogany station south of Shepard, but that extension is not yet funded and depends on future Council direction.
