Lake Sundance

A 1980s lake community between Macleod Trail and Fish Creek

Sundance was established in 1982 around a lake that opened in 1980. The lake covers 33 acres and averages about 22 feet deep, and it sits in a 22-acre park with a waterfall, a bridge and a walking loop. Fish Creek Provincial Park runs along the community's eastern edge.

The lake and park are private, for the exclusive use of Sundance residents and their guests. The Sundance Lake Residents Association states that an encumbrance is registered against each property's title and that lake fees are mandatory. Members have a sandy beach with a marked swimming area, rentals of rowboats, canoes, kayaks and paddleboards, a stocked lake, courts for tennis and pickleball, and in winter, lake hockey rinks and a skating loop. Membership is specific to Lake Sundance and does not include access to neighbouring Lake Midnapore.

Most homes are detached houses from the 1980s and 1990s on quiet crescents and closes. Shopping is close by in Sundance and Shawnessy, and Macleod Trail and Stoney Trail connect the community to the rest of the city.
